Overview

Sunbeam merges design with a youthful and creative approach to building visually appealing products and websites. They combine traditional and contemporary design principles to create user-friendly experiences.

Scope

As a UX copywriter, I was tasked with crafting the brand story, and website copy (including the brand book, tagline, case studies, FAQs, and more), and defining the company's voice and tone.

Persona

Sunbeam appeals to a generation that values wit, adventure, and vibrant aesthetics.  They design products and websites that reflect a blend of traditional and contemporary design principles, appealing to users visually while ensuring usability.

Tone and Voice

To develop Sunbeam's voice, I considered its principles, concepts, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. This resulted in a unique and distinct personality for the brand. For consistency, I created a tone spectrum that caters to each point of the user's journey.

My Challenges

Balancing effective UX principles with business requirements was a significant challenge.  Additionally, finding the right vocabulary that resonated with both younger and older users posed another obstacle.

My Solution

For Sunbeam's tagline, I came up with "The utopia of genius and creativity."  This captures the essence of a team of young creatives dedicated to their craft, embracing a world where mistakes are acceptable and creativity knows no bounds. A utopia. Fun fact - This project expanded my vocabulary and allowed me to learn new words along the way.

Content Testing

While expanding my vocabulary and pleasing the client was important, the ultimate goal was to assist users in achieving their goals. User satisfaction was paramount. For readability, I aimed for a grade level of 8 according to the Flesch-Kincaid scale, ensuring that 85% of the general public could understand the content without needing a dictionary. To test comprehension, I ran a cloze test, replacing every sixth word with a blank to gauge if testers could predict the missing word and grasp the main context.
